The Birdmen

This World War II drama from director Philip Leacock is based on a true story. The action opens with US officer Doug McClure landing in Norway to rescue atomic scientist René Auberjonois, before switching to the Alpine castle of Beckstadt on the German-Swiss border after the pair are captured. The need to build a glider to fly to freedom before the Nazis discover Auberjonois's true identity adds to the intrigue of the PoW sequences, and a solid supporting cast led by Richard Basehart and Chuck Connors underpins the drama.
