Daisy Miller
At a hotel in the resort town of Vevey, Switzerland, a young American (Frederick Winterbourne) meets a rich American girl (Cybill Shepherd) whose behaviour scandalises the Victorian high society of her day. The story moves to Rome, with tragic consequences. Based on the novella by Henry James examining the clash between American and European culture. John Furness, costume designer was nominated for an Academy Award. The film was premiered at the Baronet Theatre, New York City, May 22 1974 (source: Films in Review) Filming began in Rome in August 1973. Some of the exterior locations were the Pincio of the Villa Borghese gardens, the Campidoglio, Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine.* The opening scene takes place in the Hotel de Trois Couronnes in Vevey, Switzerland.
